12 days of cookies: Day 3 - Black and white cookies

Another day, but not just another cookie.  This is the famed black and white cookie, or half and half cookie as some may know it.  It's super popular in the New York City area; in fact, the first time I ever saw one was in an episode of Sex and the City.  But of course.

What do I love about this cookie?  It's sneaky, for one.  At first glance, one might think it's a shortbread cooking with chocolate and vanilla icing.  Well yes, but there's more to it.  A little lemony tang in the icing gives it a signature taste unlike any other cookie.

Another reason to love this cookie is that it's totally a conversation starter.  Perfect for holiday parties with mixed crowds.  Without fail, someone at your party/gathering will have ties to NYC.  He'll exclaim, "Oh, my cousin lives in the Village!"  Someone else across the room will hear that, share her thoughts and, before you know it, new friendships will have been formed!  So, you're basically being the best host ever by baking and serving these.

Oh, and they're freakin' delicious!  'Nuff said!  For the recipe to make your own black and white cookies, click here.
